Miuchi district lies inside Mount Mizufuji. A lake (the Mirror Lake) and villages lie inside a great bell-shaped hollow.
Only One Entrance
The only entrance is the Seam, facing the Ring Lake. Pass through the water tunnel by boat and you come straight out onto the Mirror Lake of Miuchi.
Migiwa and Kobon
About 3,000 people live in Migiwa, on the lakeshore, and in Kobon, on the marshland of the central hollow (Okugama).
Light and Time
In Miuchi, the Made Sun and the Made Moon that cross the ceiling keep the light in step with the time of day outside. The Made Sun is a great lamp lit by water power. The Miuchi Branch Office sets the time every day.
You can see a sky on the ceiling, but it is projected onto a film of water. Look up and it trembles slightly, like the surface of water.
The Core
In the middle of Okugama stands a single pillar that reaches the ceiling (the Core). No one has ever opened it.
