Dangai district is the settlement along the cliff face on the west side of Oyasu (the land of the town), part of Herimachi district. Houses, a school and shops stand on ledges partway down the cliff and on the rocks at its top.
The houses are linked by stone steps, cliff paths and stone bridges. Some houses stand behind the waterfalls that fall from the cliff.
The Water-Weight Cable Car
The district is linked to the ferry landing at the foot of the cliff by the Water-Weight Cable Car. Its two cars go up and down in turn, moved by the weight of the water poured into them. Clifftop Station is unstaffed.
Using the Cliff Roads
The cliff roads are slippery after heavy rain. Closures are announced on Road closures(Japanese).
